acupuncture is less about pain, though. as you said, it's about stimulating the nervous system. it can be as harmful as it is helpful. the release of endorphins after working out or participating in a fight has similar effects. is it really the pain or the chemical release within the body that you like?

I mean, I think those aren't that separate from each other, your conscious mind enjoys the pain because of the fact it's linked with your unconscious mind that's reacting on a base level to the endorphins.
But also, I think on a psychological level, engaging with something that you know your base instincts are wired to avoid, I think there's something especially energizing about that, the way your mind can override what your body is saying. On top of that, if you're engaging in it with someone else, there's also that feeling of trust. It's one thing to agree to have sex with someone, it's another level of trust to let them cut you open, you know?
