First of all, there are thousands of academic papers on the topic of sex and desire on the internet here, so try opening your mind to what can be examined in an academic lens.
Second of all, JUST sex??? One of the most important and complex things in human society???
Third of all, it's completely possible to use pain for non-sexual constructive purposes.
first: i know that. i've read them. these are guidelines for engaging in BDSM. they absolutely don't count. you could've sent me a file on its history or a psychology study about the driving urges for voluntarily participating in torture.
[There's silence for a solid forty minutes before Yugamu does in fact send over a .pdf that is exactly that.]
That was a fascinating read thank you.
Anyway have you heard of acupuncture? A sufficiently powerful stimuli can rewire the brain to respond differently to a wide variety of things. Personally I find pain applied in various contexts to help clear my mind or otherwise envigorate me.
that was actually fun to read. um, thanks. i appreciate it.
acupuncture is less about pain, though. as you said, it's about stimulating the nervous system. it can be as harmful as it is helpful. the release of endorphins after working out or participating in a fight has similar effects. is it really the pain or the chemical release within the body that you like?
[Megumi rocketing up Yugamu's rankings list for genuinely engaging in discussion about this despite clearly not really agreeeing with Yugamu's stances on the whole thing.]
That's an interesting question!
[One he actually pauses to think about.]
I mean, I think those aren't that separate from each other, your conscious mind enjoys the pain because of the fact it's linked with your unconscious mind that's reacting on a base level to the endorphins.
But also, I think on a psychological level, engaging with something that you know your base instincts are wired to avoid, I think there's something especially energizing about that, the way your mind can override what your body is saying. On top of that, if you're engaging in it with someone else, there's also that feeling of trust. It's one thing to agree to have sex with someone, it's another level of trust to let them cut you open, you know?
